Sports massage involves the manipulation of soft tissue. It has been designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances that are caused from trauma, injury or repetitive movement. Sports massage has been proven to reduce and release tension in muscles, improve circulation and encourage the removal of waste products such as lactic acid. As well as the physical benefits available, sports massage is also proven to mentally prepare people for physical activity or competition.

A maintenance massage is a regularly-scheduled sports massage which clients attend whether or not they are feeling pain. The aim of a maintenance massage is to address any tightness or niggles within the body to reduce the chance of these causing further problems. 

Maintenance massages helps to decrease DOMS, improve 

performance, reduce risk of injury and more. This type of massage is highly recommended for ammeter and professional athletes to include regularly within their training programme.

There is no specific time frame to wait between maintenance massages however most clients attend every 4 - 6 weeks. 


Pre event massages can be completed anytime from two days until immediately before a sporting event or training. Massage before an event can help enhance performance by increasing blood supply, stretched tissue and increased joint mobility.


Pre event massage also prepares the body and muscles for the event ahead as well as decreasing the risk of injuries.

Post event massage can take place anytime from 30 minutes to two days after intense exercise. It is performed after intense training or an event as part of the recovery process. Post event massage involves the application of slower and deeper massage techniques to assist recovery. 

Post event massage helps to reduce the chance of injury by flushing out waste products, relieving tightness and maintaining flexibility.

Massage can be a very important part of injury rehabilitation. Injury treatment massage helps to loosen tight muscles, increase blood flow and help to repair damaged tissues. When applying pressure through massage it can help to remove excess fluid and waste products.

Sports massage can reduce recovery time as it enhances the body's natural healing abilities.
